In praise of Intermountain Nursery

Celebrating a fine nursery…

Have you been here?  I hope so! We are very fortunate to have a nursery nearby that purchases and grows plants that are perfect for our foothill gardens.  Besides having a wide variety of California native and drought tolerant Mediterranean plants, Bonnie Bladen, her husband Ray Laclergue and their staff are extremely knowledgeable about what plants are most suitable for our area and altitude.

Besides all this, it’s a simply beautiful setting, shady and colorful, with the plants grouped along pathways and marked clearly with plant information you need.  Bonnie and Ray operate their 34 year old nursery on 5 acres of land in Prather, California where they grow most all their own bedding plants and container stock and are one of the few outstanding nurseries offering native and Mediterraneans plant in Central California.

Take a look around…

There are twelve useful demonstration gardens, including a rock garden display and keep a book and gift shop in the main building.

Harvest and Peace Festival every October

Besides all this there are classes and music events held every year along with my absolute favorite, the Harvest and Peace Festival held this Saturday and Sunday.

Browse the craft and food booths or bring a lunch and sit at the picnic tables to eat while watching the musicians play throughout the day  Everyone is so friendly at this event, sharing tables, meeting new people and seeing neighbors and friends.

Intermountain grows their own CA native seedlings in the massive greenhouses

I plan to do my Fall plant buying on this day,…a true celebration for me as the Festival always falls on my birthday weekend.  Oh, joy,…it’s almost here!
