First spring at home

April 2006- Our first spring here has been rainy for the last ten weekends, and then we left for a trip to Moab. When we returned it was spring finally, sunny and warm and everyone in town is planting in front of their homes and businesses , I notice as I drive past.

Penstamon ‘Rondo’

I, too, bought flats of flowers-to-be. This is what I planted, Purple Euphorbia, Penstamon ‘Rondo’, Coreopsis, Mexican Primrose, Erigeron Santa Barbara Daisy), Lamb’s Ears.

From my neighbors I acquired some native daisies, Chrysanthemum paludosum Ox-eye Daisy, violets, baby tears, ‘flowering almond’, which turns out to be Bridal Veil spirea, daylilies and knifofia.

A sycamore tree was planted at the far edge of the space I plan to garden near the creek bed and in an area that will need shade

In May the lower patio was poured, I watch from the bench…

2006 May, the patio is tucked into the trees and will allow us to walk out barefoot in summer.

I couldn’t find any Iceberg climbing roses, so sent away for two, planted her next to the south end of the house.  I also edged the top of the slope with stones.  A friend gave me some lilacs, put on the downhill side.

As I work, over all, I see the mountain beyond.  Who needs a garden when you have such a view, but gardening is what you do, right?
