Lavender fields forever

Spanish lavender, planted 2006

Spanish lavender, 10 planted 2006, volunteers interplanted as well, in later years

As you come down the long driveway and round the corner to park, the lavender field is on the right on the bank above the house. This was an old gravel driveway which we changed to widen the curve. Some plants have drip…you can see the hose. Deer do not like lavender, it likes growing on a slope and is one of the most colorful and useful Mediterranean plants for the garden.

A bonus and a surprise is the volunteer plants that seed themselves. I’ve planted them here and other places in the garden as well.  You can see the smaller plants. Bees and flies of all kinds love lavender and you can easily see them buzzing around madly.

I love massed lavender. Planted about 110 in the last 8 months. Can’t wait until summer. They will all be in full flower at Christmas.

Wow, Kerry, that will be spectacular in bloom! I like the large flowers of this Spanish variety, but the English is more fragrant and long stemmed.

All gardens need at least one lavender bush! If yours continue to self seed, you’ll have a hillside of lavender in a few years. I’ve visited the last couple of posts I missed this past while and left messages on each…it was great being here, again…I have really missed my regular visits! I feel well sated now…filled with beauty and inspiration and my lungs filled with your fresh mountain air and those lovely lavenders! I also had fun peeping at your garden junk collaboration and will visit again, soon.

    Big hug,
    Des xoxo

Thanks, Desiree! I love the Mediterannean plants…we have the same climate here, wet winters and dry hot summers and the fragrance of lavender is wonderful! Don’t worry…I know your M.O. and I do the same thing…read about three posts at a time! Give doggies hugs for me.
