Gardening in the Rain

Whether it’s a late Spring rain or the first rain storm of the Autumn season….what gardener alive doesn’t love that?  Some people dance and sing in the rain, but we’re gardeners, so we go out to the garden! Get into your oldest clothes and grungiest shoes, for easy bulb planting, for easy weeding. Watering chores are over and the drip system turned off for the season. The air is spicy with the soapy scent of Elegant Madia.  Breathe in!

No one will interrupt you out there in case they have to help, and even though this will confirm your gardening obsession, you already knew that!   No heat or bugs will bother you and you’ll feel like a kid, getting all muddy and dirty. When was the last time you did that?

Afterward, with a cup of hot tea and your clothes in the washer, you can listen to the rain soaking into all the roots of your newly planted babies. It’s a delightful feeling! First rain!

Welcome to Blotanical! We’re anxiously awaiting the first rain here along the coast. There’s a promise of a few morning sprinkles in the next of couple of days, and I can hardly wait, as we have many CA natives to plant this fall! Just love gardening in the rain!

We just had our first rainstorm of the season up in Marysville, too. It’s great to find another California native plant blogger! I love seeing all the different native plants growing in different parts of the state.

@ Curbstone Thanks for the welcome! Did you get your rain? We did…it poured in the afternoon, but luckily I could get out and plant the daffodils I just bought. White ‘Ice Wings’

Gayle, I know where you are! Up almost to Oroville? I’m slowly working on a list of the plants, (next to the ‘About’ page) that were here when we moved here. It’s all pretty foresty here and none of the plants were familiar. It’s been fun to learn.

I’m glad to find two California bloggers, both interested in the same kinds of plants as I!

We’ve bought 40 acres in Tollhouse. So glad I found your site. We live in Fresno now and I’m trying to decide which plants to bring with us.
